This program works to assist students (first time offenders) who are truant, cutting classes, and/or at risk of violating the attendance policy. These students are offered the choice to come before the Board instead of being sent to Juvenile Court. The student and Board will discuss the case and implement consequences for improvement, as well as help the family obtain services such as counseling, substance abuse treatment, etc. go to top
The Juvenile Review Board works with local police to hear cases involving youth under 16 with minor offenses. It is made up of YFS staff, police, and other community members. The Board will hear a case and work with the youth and family to determine appropriate restitution or consequences. go to top
Groups for children, teens, and parents are offered on issues including: social skills, communication, parenting skills, ADHD, parents of special needs children, and more. go to top
Prevention programs are provided for the local secondary schools throughout the year on issues such as: substance abuse, violence, depression and suicide, HIV/AIDS, and more. Sessions are held at Region 15's Alternative School, and an Annual Health Fair is held at Pomperaug High School which is open to all students and includes presenters from the local community. The Student Assistance Program is designed to help students and their families develop healthy coping skills to deal with non-academic issues. The Student Assistance Team, which meets to work on projects suggested by the high school administration, is comprised of community members including local clergy, police, juvenile court, and the Department of Children and Families. go to top
Students referred for counseling directly by the school system are brought into the Student Outreach Program. The students can be referred to this program for any issue that affects their academic career or school life. This program saves the Region 15 school district a great deal of money by providing this service. Master's level counselors aree available to Region 15 students and their families. go to top
